In 1964, Tanzania became independent and the Republic of Tanzania was founded. On the 19th August 1964, the agreement was signed, which paved the way for bilateral development cooperation between the German and the Tanzanian Government. One day later, the first group of German volunteers from DED arrived in Dar es Salaam. Thus Tanzania became one of the first partner countries of the DED (German Development Service). Since then a long-term thriving cooperation between the German and the Tanzanian government connects both countries with more than 800 development workers who have been working in projects all over Tanzania.
